Cairo International Film Festival opens submissions

DUBAI: The Cairo International Film Festival announced this week that submissions are now open for its 42nd edition. The cinematic event is scheduled to be held from Nov. 19 to 28.

Filmmakers can submit their shorts, features and documentaries online through the festival’s website until Aug. 31.

We’re glad to announce that our very own Ahmed Shawky is officially appointed as the new Artistic Director for Cairo International Film Festival, succeeding the great film critic Youssef Cherif Rizkallah. Ahmed Shawky is promising to maintain the success of the previous editions, coping the the current situation and hoping it all ends before November 2020. ‎ يسعدنا الإعلان عن تولي الناقد أحمد شوقي رسمياً لمنصب المدير الفني لمهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي، وذلك خلفاً للناقد الكبير الراحل يوسف شريف رزق الله. ويعد شوقي بالحفاظ على نجاح الدورات السابقة، ومواكبة الظروف الجارية، على أمل انتهائها وعودة الحياة لطبيعتها قبل شهر نوفمبر 2020.

Additionally, Egyptian writer and film critic Ahmed Shawky has been officially named as the festival’s new artistic director, succeeding the film critic Youssef Cherif Rizkallah. 

In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it’s yet to be announced whether the annual festival will take place at the Cairo Opera House like it traditionally does or if it will be a digital-only event.
