Negan shows his softer side on 'The Walking Dead' (and it's still awful)

This post contains spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7, episode 7, titled "Sing Me a Song." To refresh your memory of where we left off, check out our recap of episode 6.

While Rick's away, the mice will play — and by play, we mean embark on various ill-conceived suicide missions to try and get revenge on Negan. 

Carl and Jesus pull off their plan to infiltrate the Saviors' compound — a sprawling factory known as the Sanctuary — but get separated when Carl tricks Jesus into jumping out of the truck without him so that he can take on Negan himself. 

Carl's genius scheme is to pop out of the truck with an assault rifle and demand that Negan surrender himself, which goes about as well as expected: he kills two of Negan's followers, but doesn't even attempt to shoot the man himself, even when he has ample opportunity to do so. Luckily, Negan continues to be impressed by Carl's moxie (remember that creepy fixation on his balls?) and decides to give him a VIP tour of a day in the life of Negan instead of horribly mutilating or murdering him.
