DUBAI: Veteran Egyptian screenwriter Wahid Hamed died at the age of 76 in Cairo on Saturday, his son has announced.
Best known for projects that touched on societal taboos, Hamed is known to have suffered from heart and lung problems and was reportedly admitted to a hospital in the Egyptian capital last week.
The industry heavyweight’s last public appearance came in December, when he received a lifetime achievement award at the Cairo International Film Festival.
He was known for his controversial screenplays, including the 1995 political drama “The Nocturnal Bird” and political comedy “Terrorism and Kebab,” among many others.
