DUBAI: On Tuesday night, British brand Alexander McQueen hosted a grand soiree adjacent to Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to toast the launch of its Spring 2021 collection.
Dubai fashion influencers and It-girls were invited to take in the brand’s new collection and dance the night away while listening to tunes by DJ and influencer Parvane Barrett, who was spinning behind the decks.
The UAE announced a record high in COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 3,243 new coronavirus cases and six deaths. However, certain events are permitted with safety measures in place.
At the event was Iraqi it-girl Rania Fawaz, who showed up wearing a beige knit dress and black leather purse by Alexander McQueen.
UAE blogger Nadya Hassan was also in attendance, wearing a head-to-toe outfit from the British fashion label in the form of a black minidress, pointed-toe pumps and a leather, monochromatic bag.
Hassan took to her Instagram Stories to document the evening, sharing a glimpse of the brand’s new collection of leather handbags, clutches and jewelry as well as a spectacular Alexander McQueen projection that lit up the world’s tallest building.
She was joined at the event by Dubai-based Iraqi style blogger Deema Al-Asadi and Saudi influencer Hala Abdullah.
Al-Asadi wore an all-black look, which consisted of a voluminous corset worn over a T-shirt and tailored trousers. She completed the look with black boots and a gold-trimmed bag.
For her part, Abdullah looked elegant in a long, off-the-shoulder black gown.
Creative director Sarah Burton unveiled Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2021 ready-to-wear collection via a fashion film entitled “First Light” directed and shot by English filmmaker Jonathan Glazer in East London.
The film featured male and female models walking along the banks of the Thames on a winter’s morning wearing pieces from the new offering.
In her collection notes, Burton expressed a desire for purity.
“Shape, silhouette and volume, the beauty of the bare bones of clothing stripped back to its essence — a world charged with emotion and human connection.”
The designer drew fabric from the deadstock pile to create gowns with corset tops, long, full ballerina skirts, a biker jacket with cocoon-shaped tulle sleeves and a ball skirt.
