DUBAI: Just days after Elie Saab revealed he will not present his Spring 2021 collection at Paris Haute Couture Week, another Lebanese designer, Georges Hobeika, has declared he will not be participating in the event.
Hobeika’s decision, just like Saab, was made due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases around the world.

“As the pandemic remains strong, health restrictions are being put in place around the world: they are needed to help healthcare workers and researchers that save precious lives,” read the label’s statement that was posted on their Instagram Story.
“Haute couture will always be the privileged instrument of dreams, poetry and magic,” added the statement. “These wonders are made possible thanks to the virtuosity of the craftsmen and the dedication of the employees who combine their precious know-how to bring life to the fabrics; their safety and well-being are paramount.”
The designer was initially scheduled to present his Spring-Summer 2021 collection on Jan. 25, but he has decided to postpone the show to “more serene and happier times.”
Over the past week, Lebanon registered a new record for daily COVID-19 cases. More than 78,812 cases were recorded in the past 20 days.
The Lebanese Health Ministry’s Scientific Committee on Combating the Coronavirus Pandemic recommended extending the country’s national lockdown by at least two weeks on Wednesday.
