Beyoncé
August was a big month for Saudi designer Mohammed Ashi’s Ashi Studio. Beyoncé’s ode to the Black Lives Matter movement, the film “Black is King,” saw the pop superstar don this elaborate hand-embroidered piece from Ashi, which the designer said took 70 hours to piece together, mostly due to the exotic bird feathers on the bodice.
Ellie Goulding
Beyoncé wasn’t the only popstar to select an Ashi creation for a new video last month. UK singer Ellie Goulding wore this stunning gold creation in the video for her new release “Love I’m Given.” Goulding explained on Instagram that the gold dress “represents getting to a place of ultimate power when you know you are in the most powerful place you can be when you have that kind of reevaluation about love and forgiveness.”
Michael Cinco
The Dubai-based Filipino designer teased his Fall-Winter 2020 collection of breathtaking bridalwear last month (complete with a couture facemask, which he stressed was “only an accessory for the shoot” and not intended to provide protection). This figure-hugging lacey gown with dramatic feathers was our pick of a brilliant bunch.
Natasha Poly
As the global events industry picks up again following a complete shutdown due to COVID-19, a few socially distanced red carpets took place last month. And Ashi once again made an impact: Russian supermodel Natasha Poly sported this all-black look from Ashi’s 2019-20 couture collection at the Luisa Viaroma for UNICEF event in Capri.
Sofia Resing
The Brazilian model was just one of a number of celebrities from around the world who sported one of Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad’s ‘Rise From The Ashes’ t-shirts on Instagram last month. All proceeds from sales of the shirts will go to Lebanese humanitarian NGO Offre Joie to help its work following the devastating explosion in Beirut.
