DUBAI: French luxury house Louis Vuitton is doing its part to support COVID-19 containment efforts.

The Parisian maison has started producing hospital gowns for health care workers in its ready-to-wear atelier on Paris’s rue du Pont Neuf.

The hospital gowns will be provided to frontline workers in six Parisian hospitals of the “Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris” (AP-HP).

The protective equipment will be made by twenty volunteers who will work to create thousands of gowns in AP-HP approved fabrics and patterns.

Currently, all hospital gowns are being cut manually in the Louis Vuitton atelier. Supplied

“We are proud to be able to help health care professionals at our level and put our know-how at the disposal of the Hôpitaux de Paris to create gowns for medical staff. I would like to thank the artisans of our atelier who voluntarily participate in this civic act and who have been bravely applying themselves since this morning to equip healthcare workers in hospitals who are in need of gowns,” said Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO, during his visit to the workshop.

Currently, all hospital gowns are being cut manually in the Louis Vuitton atelier, however, as of next week, the volunteer pattern-cutters will be working from home alongside those working in Pont Neuf to produce gowns for medical personnel.

The news comes just days after the Parisian maison announced that it would re-purpose its workshops in France to produce non-surgical protective masks.
