DUBAI: Tributes have begun pouring in for French fashion designer Emanuel Ungaro who died at the age of 86.

Ungaro’s death was confirmed Sunday by the eponymous Paris fashion house he founded in 1965, which said in an Instagram post that he “will remain in our memories as the master of sensuality, colors and flamboyance,” the Associated Press reported.

The designer died Saturday in Paris, according to French media.

“He developed his ready-to-wear with the same energy and the same spirit of permanently combining creativity and savoir-faire,” the Fédération de la Haute Couture said in a statement.

“Ungaro will be remembered… for the beautiful frocks he created and how they delighted and flattered the women who loved to wear them,” Vogue’s Lynn Yaeger wrote.

Born in the southern French city of Aix-en-Provence in 1933, Ungaro moved to Paris at 23 and eventually created his own company.

For decades, Ungaro clothed celebrities including Jacqueline Kennedy and Catherine Deneuve.
