Here are some highlights from the French-born Algerian artist Zineb Sedira’s solo exhibition ‘A Brief Moment,’ at Jeu de Paume in Paris showing until Jan. 19.

‘The End of The Road’ (2010)

Sedira’s exhibition spans 21 years of the artist’s career and includes video, film, installation and photography. Its title comes from Sedira’s focus on the consciousness of time and on “recording histories.” This piece, depicting a broken car, is a video diptych over which the artist’s voiceover describes the “feeling of disorder” these abandoned vehicles stir up.

‘Lighthouse in the Sea of Time’ (2011)

This installation highlights Sedira’s interest in identity and displacement — and maritime voyages. Pictured here is “Part II” of the piece; an interview with Krimo, keeper of the Cape Sigli lighthouse in Algeria, in which he discusses his apprenticeship, daily life, and the place’s history.

‘Way of Life’ (2019)

The third of four ‘scenes’ in a new installation created specifically for the show — “Standing Here Wondering Which Way to Go.” The work is a reflection on the role that Algeria — following independence in 1962 — played in “the liberation movements of countries in Africa,” and includes scenes that could have been lifted directly from “the utopian era of the 1960s.”
