The Six: What to watch at the Carthage Film Festival

DUBAI: The 29th edition of the Carthage Film Festival kicked off in Tunis over the weekend and there is a fascinating lineup of films on show.
‘Fatwa’
Directed by Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud, the film tells the story of a father who returns to Tunisia to bury his son who supposedly committed suicide.

‘Like Salt’
Lebanon’s Darine Hotait directed this story of a female Arab-American boxer in New York who lives life in an aggressive America along with an African-American jazz musician.

‘Regarde-Moi’
Lotfi is forced back to Tunisia when his ex-wife is hospitalized and now must look after his autistic son in this drama directed by Nejib Belkadhi.

‘Yomeddine’
A Coptic leper and an orphaned boy leave their colony for the first time to embark on a journey across Egypt in search of their family roots.

‘Yara’
Yara lives with her grandmother in an isolated village, but her life is interrupted when she meets a young stranger in this film by Iraq’s Abbas Fahdel.

‘Weldi’
Mohamed Ben Attia directed this film in which a Tunisian couple, whose lives revolve around their only son, is left distraught after he leaves home to join Daesh.
