DUBAI: The 3rd edition of Beirut’s Almost There Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday, but not before a bevy of insightful films went on show.
‘Free Men’
A documentary film following the life of inmate Kenneth Reams who in on death row in Arkansas. The powerful movie explores themes of opposition, art and the dignity of human life.
‘The Silence of Others’
Filmed over a six-year period, the film reveals the epic struggle of victims and survivors of Spain’s 40-year dictatorship under General Franco, who are still trying to get justice to this day.
‘Beauty and the Dogs’
Based on a true story, a young Tunisian woman is raped by police officers and goes through a distressing night in which she must fight for her rights.
‘Tadmor’
Lebanese ex-prisoners of Syria’s Tadmor prison, one of the regime’s jailhouses, re-enact and relive their nightmarish experiences in this hellish film.
‘The Cleaners’
The film explores the day-to-day work of professionals whose job it is to sift through hours of sensitive, sometimes shocking, content online and decide whether it should be allowed to remain on social media platforms.
‘Even When I Fall’
Shot over a period of six years in Nepal, this documentary film takes a look at the rehabilitation of two female human trafficking survivors.
