BEIRUT: Moroccan Hamza Labaidh has been named the winner of the second season of “The Voice Kids” program on MBC.
Labaidh, who was coached by famous Iraqi singer Kazim Al-Sahir, obtained the highest number of votes from viewers of the live finale on Saturday night. Badr Al-Zaidan and Nardine Faraj presented the program’s closing session.
Labaidh saw off competition from Ashraqat Ahmed of Egypt and Noor Wisam of Iraq (both from the team of Tamer Hosny); Lujai Al-Masrahi of Saudi Arabia and George Asi of Lebanon (who were led by Nancy Ajram); and Yemen’s Marya Qahtan (also coached by Al-Sahir).
Each participant sang a single song with their team leader before one from each team qualified for the final, in which they competed for the title.
Accordingly, Labaidh took on Ashraqat and Lujai in the final session, and the Moroccan was ultimately announced as the winner.
Labaidh’s victory ensures that a protege of Al-Sahir has won the final for the second year in a row, following on from Leen Al-Haik’s success in the first season.
The hashtag #MBCTheVoiceKids ranked the most popular on Twitter in the Arab world during the program.
