DUBAI: A couple married in a courthouse toilet in the US after the groom’s mother fell ill.
The wedding of Brian and Maria Schulz was underway at Monmouth County Courthouse in the US, in front friends and family when the groom’s mother felt an asthma attack coming on.
The mother-of-the-groom was quickly taken to female bathroom where she was given oxygen, while paramedics were called.
Concerned for her health, but also at the prospect of not being able to wed – because a new license would take 45 days to process – the quick thinking court staff decided to move the ceremony into the toilets so the groom’s mother, who was also the witness, could see them marry.
The couple agreed and the ceremony was completed in the new location, by the hand towel dispenser.
Speaking after the ceremony Sheriff Shaun Golden praised the staff and added: “As for the nuptials, the quick thinking and determination of our officers and commitment from the judge to perform the ceremony in unusual circumstances led to one happy couple.
“I congratulate them both and wish the mother continued health.”
