DUBAI: The eagerly anticipated Paris Couture Week may have drawn to a close on Thursday, but one name is still on the lips of every fashion insider at the coveted event: Nora Attal.
The 18-year-old British-Moroccan model wowed stylish crowds and proved she is in high demand by walking in a dizzying array of high-end runway shows.
The model, who landed a coveted British Vogue cover in 2017 and was even chosen as Vogue Arabia’s December cover star, started off the week by walking in luxury brand Hermes’ show and then went on to walk the runway for Dior and New York-based womenswear brand Proenza Schouler. Attal even showed off the sartorial creations of none other than Chanel in a French garden-themed extravaganza of a show.
Chanel’s fragrant garden featured architectural wooden arbors, white roses and a babbling water fountain.
Inspired by the geometric curves in the furniture, designer Karl Lagerfeld went back to nature — and to Chanel’s couture roots — for a display of pure drama constructed with geometric detail.
The stone-colored clothes teamed with soft floral embroideries and frothy details. Models, including Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber, wore sweet pink, white and purple posies in black tulle hair-pieces.
Attal was not the only model of Arab descent to grace the catwalks at the week-long showcase of high fashion; Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid showed us all that she is a force to be reckoned with by walking for the Alexandre Vauthier show and even made an appearance at the Dior Masquerade Ball, resplendent in glittering gold eyeliner paired with rosy lips.
Paris Couture Week ended with a highly praised show by Valentino — the rare standing ovation said it all.
To the rousing sound of Maria Callas’ “Tosca,” designer Pierpaolo Piccioli swept away guests, including Valentino Garavani and Donatella Versace, with his sublime collection of theatrical gowns that were painted in the colors of the Renaissance.
