JEDDAH: Italian fashion designer Renato Balestra closed the third day of the fifth Arab Fashion Week on Friday in Dubai.
His “Princess Collection” aims to make a woman feel like a princess out of a fairy tale. Yellow and black were the dominant colors in the collection.
Balestra’s private clients include prestigious names from all over the world including Empress Farah Diba; Queen Sirikit of Thailand and her daughter Princess Choulabhorn; Princess Noor Hamzah of Jordan; Saudi Arabian princesses; leading celebrities; and Hollywood actresses, according to the Arab Fashion Week website.
Other designers who showcased their latest designs on Friday included Vietnamese designer Phuong My, who specializes in the “modern reinterpretations of traditional Asian designs for women;” David Tlale from South Africa; Moscow-based Tamam Humariff; Ludovica Virga, creator of the Mua Mua Dolls; and Pija Minaz, the Malaysian designer of hijab collection Minaz.
Arab Fashion Week, held twice a year, showcases only see-now buy-now collections and pre-collections, as opposed to the traditional haute couture in which designs are delivered months after they are ordered.
