DUBAI: The number of crashes on Oman’s roads has been slashed by a staggering 72 percent, while fatalities have halved, the traffic police chief has said.
Speaking after “Traffic Safety Day” Commander-in-Chief and Director-General of Traffic for Royal Oman Police, Brigadier General Engineer Mohammed bin Awad Al-Rawas, said the authorities were constantly working to make the roads safer.
He said there had been a 50 percent drop in road deaths compared to 2012, while the number of injuries had dropped by nearly a quarter.
Al-Rawas said reduction was being achieved – in parts – by increasing the police presence on the roads, while also spreading road safety awareness through ongoing campaigns.
