PARIS: Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad unveiled ethereal, floating gowns in powdery pastels as part of his collection at the Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday.
Murad’s haute couture fall/winter 2017-2018 collection, which looked like something straight out of a fairytale, was inspired by the Gibson Girls of the early 20th century.
The drawings of American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson, with their evocation of women both beautiful and independent, provided the impetus for outfits that blended elegant embellishment with bold features like slashed necklines and plunging backs.
“When you see the dresses of this collection, you feel that it’s maybe heavy or that there’s a lot of embroidery or ornament, but in reality it’s very light,” the designer said. “Women now want to fly, want to feel comfortable, sensual and happy.”
Murad’s designs are distributed in more than 150 multi-brand outlets as well as high-end department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Harvey Nichols.
His graceful dresses have been worn by many red-carpet celebrities including Ginnifer Goodwin, Sofia Vergara, Kristen Bell, Faith Hill, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez.
Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid were employed with devastating effect by design Maestro Karl Lagerfeld to cap Paris Haute Couture Week in Fendi’s dramatic color-infused fur collection.
Lagerfeld’s collection for “haute fourrure,” or high fur, went technicolor this fall-winter season in mink and sable — with three-dimensional floral and flower-shaped fur detailing cutting a fine style.
Model of the minute Palestinian-American Hadid, 20, prowled out animalistically in a loose and floaty, blue floral jumpsuit with peek-a-boo sheer sections and slicked-back hair.
Jenner, 21, followed soon after in a black tulip-shaped mini dress, with a cape that curved round like a flower petal.
Previous Fendi Paris fur shows have seen animal activist protests — but there was no disruption this year.
