Dubai set for tourism boost with two new islands

DUBAI: Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sunday announced the development of a new tourist destination off the coast of the city — two new islands on either side of the Burj Al Arab hotel.
The project has been dubbed “Marsa Al Arab” and is set to be completed by late 2020 to coincide with the World Expo to be held in Dubai.
One of the islands will be dedicated to entertainment and family tourism and will include water park Wild Wadi, which is set to be relocated from mainland Dubai.
The other island is set to feature 140 luxury villas, a private marina and a helipad as well as 300 sea-front residential apartments.
It will also house 140 luxury villas on a private island, which offer its residents complete privacy including a private marina and a helipad located on the left of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, the luxury villas will be operated by Jumeirah Group. It will also offer in the heart of the development.
The mega-project is spread across 4 million sq. ft. will add 2.2 km of beach frontage to the city.
Commenting on the project, Abdulla Al Habbai, Chairman of Dubai Holding, which is managing the project, said: “The launch of this new and ambitious project is in line with the directives of the visionary leadership to provide the finest and rewarding tourist experiences for visitors to Dubai, as well as enhance Dubai’s position as a global tourist destination. We are proud of the vital role that Dubai Holding plays in this sector through supporting innovation and contributing to the economic diversification of Dubai.
