People are trolling a French mayor after he named a road 'Rue de Brexit'

A pro-Brexit mayor of a French town has proposed to name a street "Rue de Brexit" in a reference to Britain's vote to leave the EU, but the joke has backfired.

Julian Sanchez, 33, a rising star in Marine Le Pen's National Front party, announced that the city council of Beaucaire in southern France had backed his proposal with a 23 to 9 vote last week. 

He described it on Twitter as an “homage to the decision of the sovereign British people”:
